  • Hudson, Gavin & Martin Auckland 1000

A big thank you to all the volunteer officials who helped run the Hudson, Gavin & Martin Auckland 1000. We had about 70 people involved in various roles. It was great to see the co-operation from all the clubs.

And we have had some thanks from the riders, including some who enjoyed the brief rain!

Next year’s race is programmed for Sunday 22nd August – put it in your diaries now.

    Junior World Track Champs

Congratulations to Sam Webster and Ethan Mitchell on their gold medal success at the Junior World Track Champs in Moscow last month. It is good to see the track programme broadening its base from endurance events based around the team pursuit into other events.

When Sam first turned up at the Velodrome a few seasons ago it was obvious he had the fast twitch fibres and leg speed to make a very good sprinter. He has realised that potential and provides a role model for other aspiring sprinters.

    Managers needed

    ManagerJobDescription.pdf

Cycling Auckland needs managers for teams going away to national competition in the South Island early next year. A job description for the position is attached (Yes the document is a little old, but the job is still the same! Please disregard the contact details at the top. All communication should be to Graham Codyre as below.)

    The events involved are.-

  • Elite & U23 Road Nationals at Christchurch from January 8 to 10
  • Elite track nationals at Invercargill from February 10 to 13
  • Track nationals for all other grades from March 1 to 6
  • Applications close with centre secretary Graham Codyre at codyre.family@clear.net.nz by Wednesday 30 September for consideration at Cycling Auckland’s October meeting. Please indicate clearly which events you are applying for.

By way of information, David Osten has already been appointed to manage the Auckland team at the Oceania track and road championships in November.

    Oceania Road Championships

Riders wishing to compete for Auckland at the Oceania Road Championships at Invercargill in November, should forward a CV of their 2009 results to centre secretary Graham Codyre at codyre.family@clear.net.nz by Wednesday 30 September for consideration by the centre selectors.

There are only a limited number of places available for Elite Men & Women; Under 23 Men and Under 19 Men & women. Entries are only available through centre teams and not by individuals. Riders will compete in the grade in which they will race 2010.

    Bike measuring jig

The bike measuring jig which was used at the Auckland Time Trial Championships at Aka Aka is available for checking bikes at Hedgehog Bikes, Botany during business hours.

If you are planning to go to the Club Rd Nationals at Nelson next month and have not checked your bike you are strongly advised to do so.

    Stay safe and stay upright

    Kind regards,

    John Coker
